2024 workshops include things to get all ages moving, singing and writing, but perhaps not all at once!
Whatever you opt for, you will be able to explore creative expression in a safe space. Talking about the new term, Sam Dawson, Head of Creative Engagement at Norwich Theatre, said: “We work hard to create a place of welcome for all, and everyone can reap the benefits of taking part in our activities. This is why Norwich Theatre’s latest take part sessions led by expert practitioners help you wind down from life’s daily stress, meet new people and learn a new skill.”
Writing through Motherhood is a chance to carve out some time in your week to focus on your creative side and feel the benefits of putting pen to paper. This is a space for mothers at any stage in their journey to learn from their peers, talk about their experiences and work on an anthology of words and poems inspired by their experience of motherhood.
Looking to destress? Then look no further than Unwind with Movement. The sessions are an hour each week to help you wind down from life’s stresses with gentle movement, relaxation and meditation.
The New Voices Choir will sing a vibrant selection of songs whilst teaching you techniques. No previous experience is necessary – the group is open to anyone with an interest in engaging their voice and learning something new. Toddlers and babies can Sing, Dance and Play in a supportive space perfect for getting stuck in and exploring moving with multi-sensory props.
If you know boys who need a new activity in the New Year The Boys Movement Company might be a perfect opportunity. The company is a new group for boys aged 11-18 that will explore a wide range of styles and have access to some of the professional companies on Norwich Theatre’s stages. The Boys Movement Company – Panto Masterclass is a one-off session that gives you unique behind-the-scenes access with the director and Dance Captain of our in-house pantomime production. All the sessions, including the Panto Masterclass, are just £5.
Older adults have a range of activities to pick from, including the popular Ballet and Dance Lab – a session to develop your musicality and choreographic skills – both sessions are for those aged 50 plus. Creative Café has been designed for those aged over 65 to get together and explore their creativity; each month, an expert practitioner will guide the group through a new activity. Theatre Makers: Ageless Wisdoms is a safe space to celebrate the journey, stories of growth, reinvention and wisdom. This is a project for 50+ creatives to explore as an ensemble and champion your voice. On 5 Dec, there will be a Taster Session for Ageless Wisdoms.
Thanks to funding from the Alison Copley Trust and the Norfolk Community Foundation, we are now able to offer new places of Theatre Cares: A Life in Music. This project is an exciting collaboration between Musical Keys and Norwich Theatre. Our practitioners are experienced in working with those with dementia. Workshops are relaxed and set to a leisurely pace. No previous music or creative experience is necessary. All instruments are provided.
If a price is a barrier to taking part, Norwich Theatre’s My Theatre scheme is designed to make sure that creative experiences and theatre can be accessible to as many people as possible. The scheme offers audience members on low-income subsidised or free places on Take Part activities as well as the opportunity to access tickets for £10 to shows.
