“A knowing glance. A heartfelt sigh
How old are they? I miss that age
Brief eye contact conveying a million words
We’re mothers now – the world’s our stage.”

The Performance – Participant, Writing through Motherhood

The journey of motherhood is a personal one, and creative expression can help us process the beautiful, joyful and challenging stages of being a mum.

What is it?
Writing through Motherhood will provide a space for mothers at any stage in their journey to learn from their peers, talk about their experiences and work on an anthology of words and poems inspired by their experience of motherhood.

What will I get from taking part?
These sessions will provide you with ideas on how to express yourself through writing. Writing through Motherhood provides a chance to carve out some time in your week to focus on your creative side, and feel the benefits of putting pen to paper. Learn new skills and form a creative support network. No experience necessary.

Who is leading the project?
Writing through Motherhood is led by actor, poet and mum to a toddler Helen Vine.

Do I need any particular skills or experience to take part?
You don’t need any writing experience to take part. Every kind of mother of any age is welcome. We also welcome babes in arms, however we are unable to provide any support for older babies or children. The focus of these sessions is you, as a mother.

I’m not sure I can afford to take part.
If cost is a barrier to taking part, we have bursary spaces available. To find out if you are eligible go to https://norwichtheatre.org/my-theatre/

I have additional needs. What support is available?
Please get in touch with jo.reil@norwichtheatre.org to discuss how we can best support your needs.

“I had a fabulous, enriching experience both times I took part and plan to sign up again… This was a truly safe space to create and share, with just the right level of fun and focus. I produced new work and made new friends too!”
