This year, Norwich Theatre is exploring The Shape of Family. Not the neatly packaged idea of family, but the messier, more complex, often-contradictory reality of what it means to be connected to others. Through performances, talks, exhibitions, and workshops, we’re inviting you to look at the ways family is changing, and the ways it’s stayed the same.

Julia Cameron is a Norwich-based artist/photographer. She has enjoyed researching her family history and has acquired photographs, letters and documents belonging to her ancestors from which she has created “ghostly” images, printed on voile, a translucent fabric.

In 2023 Julia had a major solo exhibition of her “Ghosts and Whispers” project at the Shoe Factory Social Club at St Mary’s Works showing over 80 images created from her family albums.

Julia has a Master’s degree in Public Art from Chelsea College of Art and Design and exhibits with the Lonely Arts Club and Norwich 20 Group.

From 13 – 30 May, Norwich Theatre Royal and Stage Two will be housing ‘Backstories’ a multi-media exhibition exploring pieces from Julia Cameron’s family albums.

Creative Matters: The Shape of Family is a year-long season to explore what it means to be a family and the ever-evolving nature of family life. From multi-generational households to chosen families, from kinships to blended families, the word family can be just as complex as the relationships themselves.
