Select a performance
A screening of ‘How’s Your Father?’ – a theatre show that tells the stories of four men and their experiences and encounters with authority. Each story poses different questions on what it means to be a father, what challenges fathers can face and present, and why fatherhood matters for all of us. The show is built from academic research about fathers’ experiences of family support and child protection services, and the family court system, and the characters and their biographies are based on real-life accounts given in research interviews.
With a post-screening discussion led by Dr Georgia Philip from The School of Social Work at the UEA, and with panel members from Menscraft, and Norfolk County Council’s Dads Matter.
To accompany the screening, we are also inviting audience members to take part in a postcard activity, which will later form part of an exhibition at Norwich Theatre. When you arrive, you will be given a postcard and invited to share your thoughts on what fatherhood means, and why it matters. Those who want their postcards included in the exhibition will be asked to post them in a collection box at the end of the event.
Creative Matters: The Shape of Family
This year, Norwich Theatre is exploring The Shape of Family. Not the neatly packaged idea of family, but the messier, more complex, often-contradictory reality of what it means to be connected to others. Through performances, talks, exhibitions, and workshops, we’re inviting you to look at the ways family is changing, and the ways it’s stayed the same
