This session is part of ‘Shakespeare Saturdays’ – free introductory masterclasses, led by the Royal Shakespeare Company open to everyone over 18.
You are welcome to all of these workshops, introducing (or reintroducing) approaches to Shakespeare’s work in a fun, low-pressure environment. These sessions are led by experienced RSC practitioners and writers and are the first step in our ongoing partnership with the Royal Shakespeare Company – Shakespeare Nation.
Following Shakespeare Saturday sessions, you are invited to join us at Stage Two for a special introductory event to mark Shakespeare’s birthday (23 Apr) Find out more about our upcoming Community Co-Production and how you can be involved.
What will I get from taking part?
In this session you will work with RSC voice practitioner Ellen Hartley to explore performance techniques, practical vocal exercises and ways to unlock and understand Shakespearean text, from iambic pentameter to verse.
Ellen Hartley is a professional voice, text and accent practitioner, specialising in inclusive and accessible vocal practice for complex and classical text.
Who is leading the project?
Shakespeare Saturday sessions are led by experienced Royal Shakespeare Company directors, practitioners and writers.
Do I need experience to take part?
No, these sessions are open to everyone! Whether you are a lover of Shakespeare, or haven’t picked it up since school, you are welcome. These sessions are friendly, supportive and will be a fresh take on what Shakespeare means today.
