This two-part CPD day explores how drama-based and vocal techniques can strengthen reading fluency and comprehension through the development of prosody.
In the morning teachers are given an introduction into text marking as a way to interrogate the meaning and impact of a text and explore ways to adapt the voice when reading aloud and modelling.
In the afternoon, teachers will explore a wider fluency model that incorporates echo reading, choral reading, rehearsal and performance, whilst also looking at the impact and importance of evaluation and reflection, both on children’s ability to develop and improve their own fluency, but also in relation to developing communication, oracy and collaboration skills.
The training equips teachers with practical strategies for modelling expressive reading and supporting children to become more expressive, fluent, confident readers as well as improving the classroom climate by fostering mutual support and shared success.
