This is Rambert; now, as we’ve always been; living and breathing dance DNA; committed to putting the spotlight on voices, visions and ideas shaping our world today. Dance that’s alive with urgency, energy and relevance.
For our centenary, we bring together handpicked, bite-size, high-impact works from artists with something urgent to say – including (LA)HORDE, Emma Evelein, and a new collaboration with director-choreographers Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber. Works that speak of the now, amplify untold stories, thrive on difference and match the speed and intensity of modern life.
This programme captures what matters right now — a glimpse of the future from the company that has always led the way:
Hop(e)storm by (LA)HORDE reimagines dance as a catalyst of resistance, rhythm and resilience. This electrifying work fuses the joyful swing of Lindy Hop with the raw intensity of contemporary rave culture, creating a powerful physical response to themes of power, equality, and connection. Visually stripped back and kinetically explosive, Hop(e)storm is both a tribute to dance as collective action and a call to reclaim space, freedom and identity.
Gallery of Consequence from award-winning choreographer Emma Evelein, turns the liminal space of the airport into a powerful metaphor for the choices that define us. Every gate becomes a sliding door, every movement a ripple of consequence. Set against a visceral soundscape and striking visual design, dancers embody the emotional turbulence of decision-making: the stillness before action, the chaos of uncertainty, and the quiet moments of connection that echo long after departure.
In Crimson moves between what’s seen and what’s hidden – from the front of the stage to behind the curtain, from what unfolds in full view to what simmers just out of sight. It brings you into those in-between spaces: charged, intimate and alive with the tension of performance. Director-choreographers Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber collaborate across dance, opera, theatre and film. In Crimson is a new collaboration that brings their acclaimed work to the UK for the very first time.
Hop(e)storm has been generously supported by Cockayne – Grants for the Arts and funds raised by Vogue World London.
Gallery of Consequence has been generously supported by the Thistle Trust and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
In Crimson is a Jerwood Commission for Rambert – the first of a new commissioning programme launching in Rambert’s centenary year. In Crimson is a reimagining of Fugue in Crimson originally premiered: March, 2022, Tel Aviv, commissioned by The Batsheva Ensemble.
Rambert is supported using public funding by Arts Council England.
