Open Day is this Sunday (26 Jul), and we cannot wait to welcome you all for a free family day out that gives you all-access entry to Norwich Theatre Royal and Stage Two. If you are not sure what to expect, let us break down the day for you so you do not miss a single second.
Take a Tour
Open Day is all about getting a peek at areas you would never get to see, so you must start the day by exploring. You can take a tour with one of our knowledgeable guides, with tours running all day, departing from the Box Office.
If you prefer a calmer environment, you can book a Quiet Tour at 9.30am or 9.40am. We also have BSL Tours at 10.30am and 11.30am, Audio Described Tours at 11.00am and 2.00pm, and Level Access Tours starting at 12noon and 1.00pm. You can also explore the theatre at your own pace, or why not do both!
Get a Bit Geeky at a Tech Talk
If you want to know how the stage wizardry actually happens, pop into one of our Tech Talks. Our resident technical team will be answering your burning questions about stage lighting, special effects, and what it is like from behind the scenes. There is even a BSL-interpreted Tech Talk at 2.00pm.
Family Activities
You can drop into our Puppet Making Workshop hosted by Daisy Plackett from Strange Fascination Theatre to build your own puppet to take home.
While you are here, you can play a round of Pirate Mini Golf and try on fabulous real-life costumes from past pantos for the ultimate photo-op. You can also build a mini stage set at our Model Making station and get your face painted to fully look the part.
Delve Into the Archives
Head over to the Norwich Theatre Archives and explore the history of Norwich Theatre Royal and Norwich Theatre Playhouse. To celebrate Norwich Theatre Playhouse turning 30, come share your own favourite Playhouse memories to help shape an upcoming exhibition launching later this year.
Complete the Family Activity Trail to Win
Don’t forget to pick up a Family Activity Trail sheet before you make your way around the theatre. Tick off all the fun challenges and submit your completed trail, and you will be entered for a chance to win free Pantomime tickets for a family of four!
Need a Break?
If you need a break from all the excitement, our cafe and bar spaces will be open all day serving hot and cold drinks. You are also more than welcome to bring your own packed lunch to enjoy.
