In recognition of the National Theatre’s Olivier Award-winning production Dear England, Norwich Theatre is proud to host Sport & Mental Health on 3 Feb. This free pre-show event, held in partnership with the Norfolk Community Sports Foundation, features a screening of Norwich City’s film You Are Not Alone. An accompanying panel discussion will explore how sport and the arts can work together to shift perceptions, build resilience, and encourage vital conversations around mental health.
Get moving with MÁM: On-stage Dance Workshop (14 Feb). You will head to Norwich Theatre Royal stage and explore Michael Keegan-Dolan’s methodology through improvisation and creative tasks. You will gain insight into the choreographic approach that informed the creation of MÁM through working together and exploring the possibilities of movement and expression. This session is delivered at a beginner’s level, for ages 18+. For those aged 50 and over, the In Our Shoes workshop (10 Apr) is a two-hour movement workshop based on Matthew Bourne’s The Red Shoes, delving into the story of dance, music, and passion, for participants of all abilities.
On 8 March, RSC Shakespeare Nation celebrates International Women’s Day with a curated programme of talks and performances. Highlights include Unmaking Grace: The Untold Histories of Bharatanatyam, where Anne Tiburtius examines the exclusion of dancers who fall outside dominant beauty ideals, and Poetry in Motion, a workshop teaching expressive hand gestures and storytelling techniques. The day concludes with Shakti, an evening performance that brings together traditional art forms and contemporary resonance to celebrate the divine feminine.
Artistic exploration continues with two projects inspired by The Red Shoes: Moving Art on 29 Mar, led by community artists Abby Page and Xenoula Eleftheriades, investigates the relationship between movement and mark-making, while Zines: Love, Art, Obsession on 2 Apr offers a gentle, creative space for people of all skill levels to reflect on themes of identity and ambition through zine-making.
Ahead of the RSC tour of Hamlet arriving in Norwich on 10 Mar, there are two workshops inspired by Hamlet. From Hamlet to Rock Musical (4 Mar) is a workshop and blasts full speed ahead into Space Hamlet. Share in the vision of reimagining Shakespeare’s classic with Prince Hamlet of the Denmark system. Singing Puppets in Space (4 Mar) is an introduction to the vision and craftsmanship of working with extraordinary puppets. This is a unique chance to meet some up close and get hands-on with bringing them to life. These workshops are part of Norwich Theatre’s continued partnership with the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Shakespeare Nation programme.
