Plan your May half term at Norwich Theatre

Dive into family fun this May half term with an exciting line-up of shows and activities at Norwich Theatre. Set sail to a land of pirates and nautical adventures or get creative and make your own puppet inspired by your favourite fairytales. It is going to be an exciting week, be sure to book your activities in advance so no one misses out on the fun!   

Tue 27 May 

Begin the week with an exploration of theatre-making in Play in a Day (ages 7-10) from 9am – 12.45pm and Play in a Day (ages 11-15) from 1.15 – 5pm in Norwich Theatre Stage Two. These fun workshops encourage the young generation to delve into the depths of their imagination, explore theatre-making skills, and are bookable on a pay-what-you-can basis. 

Meanwhile, little ones aged 4 – 7 can set sail on an immersive voyage during A Pirate Adventure with their grown-ups at the Norwich Theatre Royal Long Bar from 11am – 12pm. It is all hands-on deck in this immersive session, filled with fun games, props, and mesmerising stories. 

Wed 28 May 

Children aged 7 – 11 with special educational needs and disabilities can join us with their grown-ups for a relaxing moment from 11am – 12pm in the Meeting Room at Norwich Theatre Royal for Sensory Stories for SEND. The session uses an array of sensory materials and props to create a relaxed and supportive environment. 

Thu 29 May 

If you were a lucky one that secured tickets for Annie (ages 4+) at Norwich Theatre Playhouse (29 May – 1 Jun) before it sold out, you are in for bundles of fun! This co-production from local theatre companies Echo Youth Theatre and Threshold Theatre Company will be delivering an energetic and fun-filled version of this timeless story.  

Be sure to book onto Edgeland (ages 12+) if you want to explore new methods of theatre-making and delve into rich stories. Taking place on Sweet Briar Marshes on 29 May – 15 Jun, this immersive performance blends theatre, nature, and technology. Audience members will experience 3D audio through headsets and live performances, treating the whole landscape as a stage. This thought-provoking new piece of theatre is the perfect adventure for sparking curiosity and conversations for families with older children.  

Sat 31 May  

Will you be joining us for our sold-out Free for Families: Hansel and Gretel performance, followed by the Hansel and Gretel: Family Workshop at Norwich Theatre Playhouse? The show will be filled with zany characters, with families welcomed to make their own fairytale-inspired puppet in the workshop after the show.  

You can also get crafty with our free drop-in session at the Playroom (10am – 2pm) and design a community-built dream theatre! In this session, children and grown-ups will be asked what their ideal theatre would look like, what they love, and what they would like to experience more of. Have fun whilst crafting your vision for Norwich Theatre and help us shape our future!
