Ticket Pricing

How do you price your tickets?

Ticket prices are set in partnership with the producers of the show. We take into consideration the cost of putting on the production, the expected quality of the show, the price of similar shows, what peer venues are charging and many other factors before agreeing a price with the producers.

Ticket prices can fluctuate up and down across performances for some Norwich Theatre productions. This is due to regular price adjustments that we make whilst shows are on-sale based on demand. This is known as dynamic pricing, we have been using dynamic pricing for a number of years, but we’ve recently changed the system we use to operate it. This system is similar to how airlines and hotels operate. Prices may increase as a performance nears a sell-out or decrease for less popular performances.

We monitor and adjust ticket prices to ensure a fair and accessible range of seats are available where possible, this means that where we can increase the number of Band E and lower priced seats, we will continue to do so. We’re committed to honouring the initially advertised price for the initial on-sale period of a show. We therefore encourage customers to book as early as possible.

Do you keep all the money?

Ticketing income is split with our producing partners who bring shows to our venues. On average we receive less than 15p of every £1, and our share of ticketing income and the adjustments made to prices directly supports our work within the community. As a registered charity that does not receive regular public funding. Ticketing income directly supports our mission to provide creative experiences for all. This revenue allows us to offer opportunities for young people, community groups, and artists. You can find out more on our Take Part pages.

Why is the ticket I saw yesterday more expensive today?

Ticket prices are influenced by the number of seats remaining and the speed at which they are selling. If a particular performance experiences a surge in interest, the price may rise to reflect that demand. To secure the best possible price, we always recommend booking as early as you can.

If I buy a ticket and the price drops later, can I get a refund for the difference?

No, the price at the time of your purchase is final, much like booking a flight. While prices can fluctuate, booking early is the only way to guarantee your seat and protect yourself against potential price increases as the performance date approaches.

Does this mean I can no longer afford to go to the theatre?

Not at all. In fact, dynamic pricing often creates more opportunities for budget-friendly seating. If you are flexible with your dates, such as choosing a Tuesday evening over a Saturday night, or if you book well in advance, you can often find tickets at or below our standard base rates. We monitor tickets closely to make sure that we have a range of prices available where possible. Dynamic Pricing often enables us to add in cheaper seats when we otherwise would be unable.
