From ‘50s murder mysteries and hilarious drag parodies to powerful stories of rebellion, we’ve hand-picked 8 shows that prove dance is just storytelling with a higher heart rate.

Whether you’re a total newcomer or a seasoned pro, there’s a seat (and some incredible savings) waiting for you.

Glorious Forms | 22 May | Norwich Theatre Stage Two A vibrant sharing of new work from local Norwich companies, Dance Moves You and In Cahoots. These groups specialise in inclusive dance, featuring performers with and without disabilities.

En pointe: This show celebrates the simple joy of movement without the rules. Plus, you can stay for tea, cake, and a workshop afterwards to see how the magic is made.

Thick & Tight: Natural Behaviour | 22 – 23 May | Norwich Theatre Playhouse

An award-winning, queer variety show that blends dance with satire, lip-syncing, and poetry. Performers take on the personas of various life forms, from a blade of grass to a lesbian seagull, to explore what we consider “natural.”

En pointe: Funny, outrageous, and feels more like a cabaret or a comedy night than a dance performance.

Gentleman Jack | 27 – 30 May | Norwich Theatre Royal

Based on the true story of 19th-century Yorkshirewoman Anne Lister, whose secret diaries revealed her life as the first modern lesbian. This production uses narrative dance to depict her business deals, travels, and forbidden romances.

En pointe: If you enjoy period dramas like Bridgerton or even the BBC’s version of Gentleman Jack, you’ll love this. It uses storytelling ballet, where every movement helps tell the story. Use code DANCE50 by 12 noon tomorrow (30 Apr) to receive 50% off*!

Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo | 5 – 6 Jun | Norwich Theatre Royal

An all-male troupe that performs classical ballet parodies. They dance all the parts, including the female roles, complete with tutus and pointe shoes.

En pointe: It’s hilarious. They play with the tropes of ballet (like the “dying swan” who won’t actually die). It’s the ultimate entertainment show. Use code DANCE50 by 12 noon tomorrow (30 Apr) to receive 50% off*!

This is Rambert | 14 – 15 Jul | Norwich Theatre Royal

Samaram | 11 – 12 Sep | Norwich Theatre Stage Two

A powerful narrative work set in 19th-century India. It tells the story of Nangeli, a woman who led a revolt against a humiliating tax imposed on lower-caste women.

En pointe:  It proves that dance is a form of protest. It’s a deeply moving piece that uses movement to talk about human rights and dignity.

Matthew Bourne’s The Car Man | 29 Sep – 3 Oct | Norwich Theatre Royal

A dance thriller set in a 1950s American garage diner. Loosely inspired by the opera Carmen, it’s a story of a handsome stranger who arrives in a small town and causes a spiral of lust, greed, and murder. Use code DANCE50 by 12 noon tomorrow (30 Apr) to receive 50% off for evening performances on Tue 29 & Wed 30 Sep*!

En pointe: There are no tutus here, just jeans, grease, and high-tension drama. Perfect for anyone who loves action movies or thrillers.

Cinderella | 18 – 21 Nov | Norwich Theatre Royal

The classic fairytale you know by heart, but told through breathtaking waltzes and live music. Cinderella’s touching story unfolds with twists and turns, culminating in a romantic finale where love, kindness (and a perfectly fitting slipper) conjure a ‘happily ever after’.
